E-ink price tags: design around the information people need

Compare price-tag canvases and use size, spacing, and display color to make product information easy to read.

Choose an information hierarchy

A useful price-tag layout lets a reader identify the item and find its price without searching the whole screen. Start with those two pieces of information. Add a unit, variant, or short descriptive line only after checking the primary text at the intended display size.

Keep displayed prices consistent with your catalog or sales system, and include the correct unit beside each amount.

Separate the application from the profile

The IMPixED catalog previews include 1.54-inch-class Price Tags as well as Key Chains. Match the exact model to its display and update instructions. The documented price-tag firmware profiles include:

Size class Firmware profile Pixel canvas Display palette
2.13-inch 0213-2c 122 × 250 BW: black and white
2.66-inch 0266-3c 152 × 296 BWR: black, white, red
2.90-inch 0290-4c 128 × 296 BWYR: black, white, yellow, red

Check current availability in the storefront. In particular, the four-color 2.90-inch profile identifies SE0290MNP26-FNG-A0. A different panel with the same nominal size must not be assumed to share its format or compatibility.

Fit the layout before adding color

Use the actual pixel canvas to compare a short item name with a longer one. Test the amount of room needed for the price and its unit. A narrow portrait canvas and a square canvas may need different line breaks even when their nominal diagonals sound similar.

BW can support a layout built around text hierarchy. BWR adds a red accent, and BWYR adds yellow as well. Neither palette supplies arbitrary full-color output. A colored badge should also have a text label so its meaning does not depend on color alone. Case colors are separate from all three screen palettes.

Review the update as well as the image

Before using a changed label, check its content against the authoritative item record. Then check the rendered image for clipped digits, ambiguous units, and missing characters. For an NFC update, the app must wait for the device’s preparation and completion states; a sent file or accepted commit alone does not establish completion.

The NFC preparation article explains that distinction. Screen size and display palette provides a checklist for comparing canvases. Confirm mounting and phone compatibility for the exact product before planning an installation.
