E-ink billboards: plan a message before choosing a panel

Plan clear information-board layouts, compare pixel canvases, and choose a display for its intended setting.

Define the intended reading task

Billboards are an intended IMPixED application category for information displays. A notice, a room label, or a compact information board starts with the same question: what should someone learn from one look? Choose a headline and a small amount of supporting content before selecting a canvas.

The Billboards range is coming soon. Confirm the finished product size, mounting and environmental rating before choosing an installation location.

Compare canvases, not category names

The generic firmware notes document several panel profiles. They are useful examples of different canvases, but they are not a verified billboard catalog:

Firmware profile Pixel canvas Display palette
0352-2c 240 × 360 BW
0368-3c 528 × 792 BWR
0750-2c 800 × 480 BWR

The last profile illustrates why a name alone is not a specification: despite the retained 2c suffix, its documented supplier panel and metadata use three colors: black, white, and red.

The 0368-3c panel notes flag inconsistent physical-size information in the preliminary supplier document. Its precise sizing remains under review. The 0750-2c profile also requires validation of the exact panel and adapter/power hardware. Use confirmed product dimensions when planning a finished installation.

Test the hierarchy at the intended viewing position

Draft the message with large primary text, a smaller supporting line, and generous spacing. Inspect the rasterized layout before adding decorative detail. Try an example with the longest expected headline, not just the shortest one.

If a red accent carries meaning, repeat that meaning in text. A BWR panel cannot reproduce a full-color poster as supplied; the image needs to be composed for its actual palette. Enclosure color is a different product attribute and is not specified by BWR.

Physical readability must be checked on the intended hardware in its intended setting. A pixel count does not establish viewing distance, outdoor visibility, temperature suitability, or refresh performance for a complete installation.

Plan the update workflow

The documented NFC workflow prepares and transfers a complete image matched to device metadata. It does not by itself establish remote scheduling, wireless fleet management, or a billboard content service. Decide how an operator would reach and update the proposed display before assuming an installation workflow.

Continue with screen size and display palette and NFC image preparation for the shared display principles.
